Objectives for my students: - Students will manipulate the slope of a line and verbally describe the effects of said manipulations. - Students will categorize two lines as parallel by observing their slopes. - Students will determine if two lines are perpendicular based on the angle between the lines. - Students will distinguish between the effects slope and y-intercept have on a line. - Students will verbally describe the effect the y-intercept has on a line. My advice for teachers: - On the Geogebra applet, teachers should hide the Challenge Problem image until the students are ready to extend their knowledge of slope and y-intercept. - Teachers should have students verbally describe the effects of the slope and y-intercept on the line during the activity. - Teachers can use the slope and y-intercept sliders to illustrate the change these two values have on linear functions. You might want to allow students to come to the board and change the values as well.
