The area of the circle

Finding the formula for the area of a circle may be complicated for students. They can wonder about where it comes from. This activity aims them to infer the formula for the area of the circle by using the circumference formula for the circle and the area formula for the rectangle. While they can change the number of dissected parts and rearrange them, they may visualize rearranged shapes and finally find a rectangle. By using the dimensions of the rectangle, also students are able to find the area of the circle.
