Perpendicular Lines

Students will investigate the relationship between perpendicular lines. Having already discovered that parallel lines have the same slope, students will expect to see a relationship between the slopes of the intersecting lines. Students are able to drag points A and B to create their own set of perpendicular lines. The technology records the equations of the lines created (in slope intercept form) as well as the slopes of the lines in fraction form. Through this exploration, students can see the relationship that perpendicular lines have opposite reciprocal slopes. The last question on the exploration section serves as an extension for students. The given program highlights how students could answer the question (given two points, line drawn, how does the relationship help create slope?).
