The Magok-i-Atari mosque has a long building history from the 12th until the 16th century. The south portal is the only remaining part of a mosque built before the Mongol invasion and so one the few buildings dating from these period. It would even be the oldest remaining mosque in Central-Asia.
Notice that in this period monuments weren't decorated by glazed tiled. Decorative patterns on the vertical panels next to the entrance were created by arranging tiles in wet clay forming patterns. Inside of the line pattern decoratieve figured were carved into the clay.

The panel on the left picture shows a pattern created with octagons and kites, arranged as 4-pointed stars. The panel on the right picture is decorated by freer pattern of overlapping squares.
