Explore Triangle Midsegment Theorem

Construction instruction

Note: Use the axes and grid tool to get a graph which will help to form triangle coordinates. 1.Draw any △ABC with coordinates A(−1, 3), B(5, 5), C(5, 1). Label each point Ex: A (-1,3) 2. Plot midpoint D of segment AB and midpoint E of segment BC. Draw segment DE, which is a midsegment of △ABC. 3. Change the color of midsegment line DE to blue.

Answer the questions

1. Compare the slope of segment DE with segment AC. Are the slopes the same? What do you infer?

2. Compare the lengths of segment DE with segment AC. Indicate the relation between them mathematically.

3. write a conjecture about the midsegments of a triangle and how they are related to the sides of the triangle.
