An example of a simple linear function.
This is an example of a simple linear function. The line you see on the graph, is an expression of the function rule "y = 2x +6". The "2" being multiplied by 'x' represents the slope or rate of change; how steep or flat the line is on the graph. The "6" represents the y-intercept; the point on the line, where the line crosses the y-axis.
Change the number of y-intercept, on the function rule in the upper left hand corner, to a number -10 to 10 and write down how the line changed.
Now, change the y-intercept to a value of "-8".
Change the number of the y-intercept to a number -5 to 5. Write down how changing this number, changes how the line is represented on the graph.
Now, change the value of the slope, on the function rule in the upper left hand corner, to a value of "-4"
Write how this line is different from the original line.
