Problem-Solving with Venn Diagrams Part 1

Marquis conducted a survey asking people which of the following devices they own: a smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop. The Venn diagram that follows shows his results. Based on the diagram, determine each of the following:
  • the number of people Marquis surveyed
  • the number of people who own all three devices
  • the number of people who own just a smartphone and a laptop
  • the number of people who own only a tablet, only a laptop, or both a tablet and a laptop
  • the number of people who do not own a tablet
Assume that everyone Marquis asked responded to the survey, and everyone owned at least one of the devices.
  1. Determine the number of people Marquis surveyed.
  2. Determine the number of people who own all three devices.
  3. Determine the number of people who own just a smartphone and a laptop.
  4. Determine the number of people who own only a tablet, only a laptop, or both a tablet and a laptop.
  5. Determine the number of people who do not own a tablet.
