Rounding Decimals Lesson 1
Rounding decimals means simplifying a decimal to a desired level of accuracy, such as the nearest tenth or hundredth. To do this, identify the digit in the place value you're rounding to, then look at the digit immediately to its right. If this right-hand digit is 5 or greater, you "round up" by increasing the target digit by one. If the digit is 4 or less, you "round down" by keeping the target digit the same. Drop all subsequent digits to the right to get your rounded number.
