Can you identify and name all the functions represented by the landscape?
Creating artwork from a virtual graphing calculator is a great activity for students and for implementing interdisciplinary teaching. One benefit of using Desmos is the slider tool: I was able to create animations by imputing free variables within a trig function. I do not claim to be an expert at graphing complex functions but by experimenting and testing with different domains, ranges and transformations I was able to achieve a desired image. As such, I believe this could be a great exercise in exploration into transformations and domain and range notation for students at the high school level. Not to mention this may be an activity that is meaningful for students with artistic talents! Lastly, this program can be used for a discussion into real-world applications such as in careers like graphic design. What a great was to demonstrate mathematics in our ever-evolving technological world!
