The program “Mathematics, Digital Media and Didactis”

The “Mathematics, Digital Media and Didactics (MDMD)” is a distance education program that has been offered at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, with a first edition in  2009- 2011 and a second edition in 2014-2015. It is a partnership with the Open University of Brazil (UAB). The program main concern is to prepare mathematics teachers to use digital media in their classrooms (college and high school). Each course of the program has focus on a different digital midia and  has a specific website  prepared according to the goals of the course. They were designed to work with teachers the potential of digital media and especially  to promote the awareness to the process that can make a software a toolforthougths (Clinton&Shaffer).  The courses’ contents the contents highlight the mathematics concepts, the skills required to use a software and some pedagogical strategies that can be applied.     About the team and the students:
  • 6 professors and 6 tutors in the city of Porto Alegre 
  • 120 school math teachers living in 6 different cities (Camargo, Picada Café , Novo Hamburgo, Pinhal, Faxinal do Soturno e Três Passos)
