3/15, 3/16 LT 2i Similar Polygons Activity

(1) Use the diagram to sketch two similar quadrilaterals in your notes. (2) Check off the box "Show angle measures" and label the angle measures of the corresponding angles of your polygons. (3) Label the sides for each of your polygons (Note: A couple of side lengths are not 100% accurate). (3)Write the scale factor (use k = scale factor) that you chose (using the slider) between your polygons. (4) Write a proportion comparing one PAIR of corresponding side lengths of your polygons. Then, cross multiply to verify that ratios are equivalent. (5) Calculate the PERIMETER of each polygon (add all sides of each quadrilateral) by using a calculator or by hand (Note: The check box "Show Perimeters" is not accurate so don't click on it.) Use a calculator to simplify this ratio. What did you notice? (6) Change the polygon on the right (by dragging one or more of its vertices) and repeat questions 1-5 for these new polygons.
Be prepared to show your diagrams and answers to the questions above in class.
