Base Number System Applet
This applet will allow you to see how Base 10 numbers are represented in other Base Number Systems.
For "Representing Base 10 Numbers in other Bases," enter a Base 10 number into the first input box and the number base system you'd like to see that number expressed in.
For "Representing Numbers from other Base Systems in Base 10," put a number and a base in and the applet will show what that number would be in Base 10. Careful, as some numbers won't work in some number bases.
For "Adding Number in Other Bases" and "Multiplying Number in Other Bases," input two Base 10 numbers, the base number system you'd like your answer to end up in, and the applet will show how two base 10 numbers will be added or multiplied in the base number system of your choosing.
1. What do you notice about numbers converted to Base Systems lower than 10?
2. What do you notice about numbers converted to Base Systems greater than 10?
3. How are numbers like 10 and 11 represented in Base 12? Why would the be like that?
