Transversals and Triangles

Here is an opportunity to use your knowledge of transversals to discover relationships between different triangles. As you go through the activity, feel free to construct the lines that you identify.

Look at these two triangles. Can you find two sides of the triangles that lie on parallel lines? How do you know they are parallel?

Can you identify any transversal lines between these parallel lines?

Using your knowledge of transversal lines, find and list the pairs of congruent angles within the triangles. Check those conclusions by measuring the angles.

With the information you have gathered, make a conjecture about the relationship between these two triangles. (Hint: If you are having a hard time finding a relationship, try measuring and comparing the sides of the triangles)

Do you think your conjecture applies to all triangles that are created by two intersecting transversals through a pair of parallel lines? Why? Drag different points on the triangles, does your conjecture still hold true?
