Standard Aligment

1. Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards (High School Geometry / Precalculus) According to Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards for Geometry (Grades 9–12), the relevant benchmarks include:
  • MA.912.GR.7.1 — Identify the conic resulting from the cross-section of cones.
  • MA.912.GR.7.2 — Derive and create the equation of a circle using key features, including completing the square
  • MA.912.GR.7.3 — Graph and solve real-world problems with equations of a circle, interpreting center, radius, domain/range.
  • MA.912.GR.7.4 — Derive and create the equation of a parabola using key features such as vertex, focus, and directrix.
  • MA.912.GR.7.5 — Graph and solve real-world problems with parabolas; interpret intercepts, focus, directrix, domain/range.
  • MA.912.GR.7.6 — Derive and create the equation of an ellipse using center, foci, axes.
  • MA.912.GR.7.7 — Graph and solve problems with ellipses, identifying center, foci, axes, vertices, domain/range.
  • MA.912.GR.7.8 — Derive the equation of a hyperbola, including key features.
  • MA.912.GR.7.9 — Graph and solve problems with hyperbolas, interpreting center, foci, asymptotes, vertices, directrices, domain/range.
2. NCTM Process Standards (PSSM Framework) NCTM emphasizes five interrelated process standards, which are essential capacities and habits of mind that students should develop through learning mathematics:
  1. Problem Solving – Engaging with non-routine problems, applying a variety of strategies.
  2. Reasoning and Proof – Making and justifying conjectures, using logical deduction.
  3. Communication – Expressing mathematical thinking coherently to others.
  4. Connections – Relating math concepts to each other and to real-world contexts.
  5. Representation – Modeling ideas through diagrams, symbols, graphs, technology, etc.
