MTH 254 Unit Vector in the Same Direction in 2D

Any vector can be scaled longer or shorter by multiplying by a scalar. Multiplying a vector by a scalar maintains the direction of the vector but changes the magnitude. We already have unit vectors (with magnitude 1) directed along the x-axis and y-axis, these are and , respectively. We often want a unit vector directed in the same direction as a given vector.
In the interactive graph, adjust the endpoint of and note its components and the magnitude are given. The vector labeled is the unit vector in the same direction as is calculated as . Verify the components of the unit vector in the same direction as for multiple vectors.
