Basic Construction Tools

Construction #1: Circle and Radius

Complete the following steps: 1) Using the POINT TOOL, place three points in the box below (Points A, B, and C) 2) Using the SEGMENT TOOL, draw segment AB 3) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and center point C Tip: To make a circle with radius AB using the COMPASS TOOL, click on point A then point B, then click on point C to make it the center. 4) Using the DISTANCE TOOL, measure the length of AB. 4) Take a screenshot of this construction and paste it into your OneNote.

Using the MOVE TOOL, move point B in the problem above to change the radius of circle C. How does the radius affect the circle?

Construction #2: Intersecting Circle and Line

Complete the following steps: 1) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and centerpoint C 2) Using the POINT TOOL, mark points F and G at the intersections of circle C and segment DE 3) Using the SEGMENT TOOL, Draw triangle CFG 4) Using the DISTANCE TOOL, measure the length of segements CF, DF, and FG 5) Take a screenshot of this construction and paste it onto the same page of your OneNote.

What kind of triangle did you construct?

Is there a way to determine the kind of triangle without using the DISTANCE TOOL?

Construction #3: Intersecting Circles

Complete the following steps: 1) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and centerpoint C 2) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and centerpoint D 3) Using the POINT TOOL, mark points E and F where Circles C and D intersect 3) Using the SEGMENT TOOL, draw segment EF connecting the intersections of circle C and circle D 4) Using the SEGMENT TOOL draw segment CD 5) Using the POINT TOOL, mark point G where segments EF and CD intersect 6) Using the ANGLE TOOL, find the measure of angles created by the intersection of segments EF and CD?

In the construction above, use the MOVE TOOL to move point B closer to point A. How does this affect line segment EF? What happens when the circles no longer intersect?

In the construction above, use the MOVE TOOL to move point B closer to point A. How does this affect the angles made by the intersection of segments CD and EF?
