Answer the following questions about properties of Parallelograms:

Topic: Properties of Parallelograms. Overview: In this activity students will use the GeoGebra figure to interpret the shape and discover various properties of parallelograms. Activity: Please observe the figure above and answer the following questions.

1

From our study of parallelograms, how do we know a shape is a parallelogram? List as many properties as you can remember.

2

One property is that of having congruent sides. Move the AB slider such that the length of side AB is 6. What is the length of side BC? What is the length of side AD? What is the length of side DC? What do we call it when two sides have the same length (i.e. AB=DC)?

3.

Using the slider, play around with a few angle measures. When added, what is the sum of angle A and angle B? If angle B has a measure of 30, what is the measure of angle D?  * complete the sentence* - Opposite angles are _________.

4

Using the information from question 3, how do we know if each side is parallel to the opposite side? Explain.

5

Using the slider, create a 90 degree angle. What is the measure of each other angle?

6

If all angles in the figure are added up, what is the total sum?
