Mathematical Connection with Estimation
This game aims to make students be able to estimate the length of the construction when they are given unit. In the curriculum, estimation has a place in most of the content. For example:
M.1.3.1.3. Bir nesnenin uzunluğunu standart olmayan ölçü birimleri türünden tahmin eder ve ölçme yaparaktahminlerinin doğruluğunu kontrol eder. M.2.1.1.3. Verilen bir çokluktaki nesne sayısını tahmin eder, tahminini sayarak kontrol eder. M.3.3.3.2. Bir alanı, standart olmayan alan ölçme birimleriyle tahmin eder ve birimleri sayarak tahminini kontrol eder. M.4.1.4.5. En çok iki basamaklı bir doğal sayı ile bir basamaklı bir doğal sayının çarpımını tahmin eder ve tahminini işlem sonucu ile karşılaştırır. M.4.3.1.3. Kesirlerle yapılan işlemlerin sonucunu tahmin ederAs you have seen, estimation is important tool for making students connections with content because estimation brings about the ability of the comparison and computing and calculating mentally. Teacher can use this game while s/he were teaching measurement. While students were learning measurement, they can have misconceptions about the unit, when the unit has changed, they can have conflict about the measurement of the length. Therefore, beginning the concept of a measurement of the length with estimation can be helpful for understanding of the mean of the unit and what does unit indicate in the measurement of the length. In addition, using real world examples help students to make concrete connections with the measurement because estimation with abstract example as a common could be harder and misunderstood. This game doesn't include any long calculation steps, therefore teacher can use the game at the beginning of the topic of measurement of the length to engage students with the topic.
