Locating Fractions and Decimals on a Number Line

This activity will help you accurately locate fractions and decimals on a number line which will further develop your understanding of comparing fractions and decimals.

Instructions

-Place the two X's as accurately as possible on the number line. - Use the interval slider to help you by matching the number of sections on the line with the denominator. (For example, if the denominator is 8, then there should be 8 sections on the number line) -Once you have placed the numbers on the number line, check your estimates by selecting the "Show/Hide" check boxes. -Adjust your X's to match the correct location if needed. - Move the X's back to the green area and uncheck the "Show/Hide" boxes. - Press the "New Numbers" button to generate a new pair of numbers. - Repeat this process 10 times for practice. Keep track of how many you get close to correct.

Check Your Progress

After completing 10 problems, about how many did you get correct? Remember, you answer should have been close, but they did not need to be perfect.
