8th Grade Dilations Exploration
In this activity, you will observe and explore a dilation.
Use the "Scale Factor" slider to dilate the original pre-image (in red) and try and answer the following questions with your partner.
1) Describe what happens if the scale factor is less than 1?
2) Describe what happens if the scale factor is 1?
3) Describe what happens if the scale factor is greater than 1?
4) Move the scale factor to 3. Write down the dilation image coordinates. What do you notice when you compare the original coordinates to the dilation's coordinates?
5) Move the scale factor to 0.5. Write down the dilation image coordinates. What do you notice when you compare the original coordinates to the dilation's coordinates?
