Sine Transformation

Using the sliders or the entry boxes, explore what happens to the sine function as we adjust A and B. Record these observations and then answer the questions below.

Questions for Exploration:

1. What happens to the sine function as we increase A? (Compare to g(x)=sin(x) if necessary). 2. What happens to the sine function as A becomes negative? (Compare to g(x)=sin(x) if necessary). 3. What happens to the sine function as we increase B? (Compare to g(x)=sin(x) if necessary). 4. What happens to the sine function as B becomes negative? (Compare to g(x)=sin(x) if necessary). 5. Is it possible for us to adjust only A and B to make the sine function look like the cosine function? Explore this idea by adjusting the sliders. Then check the box "Show h(x)=cos(x)" to compare your results. 6. If it is possible, what is the equation you used? If it was not possible, check the box "Show k(x)" and explore what needs to happen for the sine function to look like the cosine function.
