Wave Basics

  • The simulation represents a transverse wave traveling to the right.
  • Use the sliders to set the amplitude and wavelength of the wave.
  • The distance of point Q along the wave can be set using the distance slider. The two vectors on the left show the displacement of the two points P and Q. The phase difference gives the phase of Q relative to P.
  • Click the play/pause button (bottom left) to play or pause the animation. You can also drag the t slider to show the wave at a particular time (note that t is given as a fraction of a period of the wave).
