Move the slider to change the value of p. You can see the effect of this by comparing the blue graph to the graph of x squared which is red. Use the buttons to show the table - can you see why the graph changes in the way it does? Turn "Trace On" - you will then see copies of the graph as you move the slider.
Examine the values of in the table as you move the slider. Why does changing the value of p change the graph in this way? Some people think the graph should move in the other direction - try to understand what is happening. Also note the connection between p and the axis of symmetry of the graph.
