Rotations - Lloyd

Class Work:

Write the following assignment a piece of paper. Share your answers with me. In this lesson: Notice what happens to the coordinates (x, y) when you rotate 180°. Notice what happens to the coordinates (x, y) when you rotate clockwise 90°. Notice what happens to the coordinates (x, y) when you rotate counterclockwise 90°.

1) Given the graph:

a) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Click the [ ] Show image box and use the green slider to set the rotation = 180° degrees. c) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the Image. A'( , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) d) What happened to the coordinates? What is the Algebra rule? ( , )

2) Given the graph:

a) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Click the [ ] Show image box and use the green slider to set the rotation = 90° degrees. Was it rotated clockwise or counterclockwise? c) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the Image. A( ' , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) d) What happened to the coordinates? What is the Algebra rule? ( , )

3) Given the graph:

a) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Click the [ ] Show image box and move the green slider all the way to the right. The first Image is 90° counterclockwise. The second Image is 180°. The third Image is 90° clockwise. (Be sure to use the third Image which is in the 4th quadrant.) c) Write the coordinates of the vertices of the third Image. A( ' , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) d) What happened to the coordinates? What is the Algebra rule? ( , )

4) Given the graph:

a) Name the coordinates of the vertices of the PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Rotate the figure 180° and name the coordinates of the vertices of the Image. A'( , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) c) Sketch the graph on your paper.

5) Given the graph:

a) Name the coordinates of the of the vertices PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Rotate the figure 90° clockwise and name the coordinates of the vertices of the Image. A'( , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) c) Sketch the graph on your paper.

6) Given the graph:

a) Name the coordinates of the vertices of the PreImage. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) D( , ) b) Rotate the figure 90° counterclockwise and name the coordinates of the vertices of the Image. A'( , ) B'( , ) C'( , ) D'( , ) c) Sketch the graph on your paper.

7) This is graph has multiple problems.

In the top right corner of the graph, there is a new problem button. Click it to create different triangles. a) Use the new problem button to pick a point and write it's coordinates A. A( , ) b) Click the [ ] 90° counterclockwise box which gives you the A' coordinate. Name point. A'( , ) c) What Algebra rule do you use to rotate 90° counterclockwise? ( , ) d) Click the [ ] 180° box which gives you the A' coordinate. Name point. A'( , ) e) What Algebra rule do you use to rotate 180°? ( , ) f) Click the [ ] 90° clockwise box which gives you the A' coordinate. Name point. A'( , ) e) What Algebra rule do you use to rotate 90°clockwise? ( , )

7) This is graph has multiple problems.

In the top right corner of the graph, there is a new problem button. Click it to create different triangles. a) Use the new problem button to pick a triangle and write it's coordinates ABC. A( , ) B( , ) C( , ) b) Click the 90° counterclockwise box which gives you the A' coordinate. Name the missing points. B'( , ) and C'( , ) b) Click the 180° box which gives you the A' coordinate.
