Shulba Sutra and the Pythagorean Theorem

Author:
Kishore S Kumar
Topic:
Geometry, Pythagoras or Pythagorean Theorem, Trigonometry
Is the Pythagoras Theorem really attributable to Pythagoras? Here is an application of the theorem from Indian geometry a few centuries before Pythagoras. The Shulba Sutra (circa 8th century BC) uses the relationship between the sides of a right triangle to convert a rectangle into a square of equal area [Staal, Greek and Vedic Geometry, pp 117].
