MTH 254 Scaling a Vector in 2D

Any vector can be "scaled" to change its magnitude. For any vector , if c is a constant, then is a scalar multiple of .
  • If c > 0, then represents a vector in the same direction as with magnitude .
  • If c < 0, then represents a vector in the opposite direction as with magnitude .
Interactive Graph: The blue vector V can be repositioned by dragging the blue dot at the head of the vector. The red vector W is the scalar multiple of V. The slider can be used to change the value of the constant, c. Be able to predict the components of the scaled vector as you explore.
