Jennifer Symonds is Associate Professor of Education at the School of Education, University College Dublin. Jennifer’s Engagement in Learning, Schools and Societies research lab (www.elsslab.com) seeks to understand how individuals construct, experience, and sustain their engagement in various activities in childhood and across the lifespan. Jennifer is Director of Research on the Doctorate in Educational Psychology programme, where she teaches systematic literature reviewing for doctoral theses and publication. Jennifer has lectured in systematic literature reviewing in Ireland, the UK, and Norway and looks forward to virtually visiting Austria to share her techniques.  Konstantinos Tatsis is an Associate Professor in Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics at the Department of Primary Education of the University of Ioannina in Greece. His research interests include the analysis of verbal interactions during collaborative problem solving and problem posing. Additionally, he is interested in the analysis of sociological factors that affect mathematical learning. He has been an ERME Board member from 2015 to 2021 and has also been involved in the organisation of activities focused on young researchers’ development (YERME day, YESS summer schools). He is the Director of the Mathematics Teaching Research Laboratory (MathLab), which is based in Ioannina (Greece) and supports teachers’ professional development concerning mathematics in primary school.

Round Table

The round table will include the keynote speaker and the following speakers:

Dorota Lembrer is a PhD Candidate at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences in Bergen, Norway, and has background as a lecturer at Malmö University in Sweden. The representative of Young European Researchers in Mathematics Education in ERME board. Her main research interests are early childhood mathematics education and aspects of mathematics in home environments. She is particularly interested in how wider societal changes may impact children's opportunities to participate in mathematical activities relevant to their current and future lives.Andrea Maffia has a PhD in Mathematics Education, former representative of early-career researchers in ERME. His research mainly concerns teaching and learning of multiplication properties at primary level. Semiotics of mathematical teaching/learning and networking of theories in mathematics education are other general interests. Currently he is working as researcher at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pavia (in Italy).

Gregor Milicic is a postdoctoral researcher at the Goethe University in the field of mathematics education. In his research, he wants to identify linking topics between mathematics education and Computational Thinking as one of the 21st century skills and also evaluate the benefits its embedment in regular mathematics lessons holds.Zsolt Lavicza is a Professor in STEM Education Research Methods, at the Department of STEM Education, Linz School of Education, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz Austria. He has worked on several research projects examining technology and mathematics teaching in classroom environments. He has greatly contributed to the development of the GeoGebra community.
