This file is specially designed to help you understand the concept of reflection across the y-axis.
Topic: Y- axis or x = 0
Objective:
- Students will identify the y-axis on the Cartesian plane.
- Students will understand that all points on the y-axis have x = 0.
- Students will plot and interpret points lying on the y-axis.
- Ask: “What happens if you stand at a place where you move only up or down and not sideways?
- Show a coordinate grid and ask students to guess what x = 0 means.- Use real-life example: Elevator moving up/down without going sideways.
- Give students graph paper
- Ask them to plot points like (5, 2), (2, -3), (2, 5),
- Let them connect the points and observe the vertical line formed.
- Explain that this vertical line is the y-axis and all points on it have x = 0.
- Write the equation: x = 0 ⇒ y-axis
- Label the axes clearly on the board and mark a few points.
- Provide a list of coordinates. Students identify which lie on the y-axis.
- Use GeoGebra or graphing app to show how the y-axis looks dynamically. (this file already you have )
- Ask students to: a) Write the definition of y-axis in their own words. b) Plot 3 new points on the y-axis. c) Write 2 properties of y-axis.b
