This applet let you play around with the rectangles, and see the relationship between them. Two smaller rectangles combined together makes a larger rectangle. The dimension of the larger rectangle is directly correlated with the two smaller rectangles. Notice that as you expand the large rectangle, the two smaller rectangle gets expanded as well.
