Volume

Looking at Volumes

Observe the cone. Move the height of the water up and down. Reflect upon the following questions as you observe:
  • How is the volume changing as the height of the water changes?
  • Will the volume change faster when the height is smaller or bigger? Why?
  • If you graphed height v. volume what would the graph look like?
Now observe the graph being drawn as you change the height:
  • Is this what you expected the graph to look like?
  • Why is the volume growing less at the beginning and more at the end?
Describe the covariation between height and volume based on the graph. What does it mean for two values to covary?
