This interactive figure illustrates how to estimate the length of a curve using lines segments forming a polygonal path.
Drag the control points on the curve to change the curve. Slide the slider to change the number of segments used in the approximation.
The take-away from this interactive figure is that the greater the number of segments used to estimate the arc length, the better the estimate of the actual length computed using an integral.
