Objective: To develop English language skills and scientific understanding of light and spatial concepts
Materials: A light source (e.g., mobile phone with light), a darker room, optional song for younger pupils.
Fun Shadow Play Activity
Procedure:
- The teacher places the light source behind one pupil.
- The teacher moves the light to different positions and asks questions in simple English:
- Children respond using simple English sentences, reinforcing spatial vocabulary:
- For younger pupils, this activity can be accompanied by the suggested song to maintain engagement and support memory, rhythm and repetition.
- Children practice simple English sentences describing position and movement.
- Target structures: It's on the..., It's near/far/up/down.
- Children explore the concept of light source movement and its effect on the environment.
- Supports observation, attention, and spatial reasoning.
