Exploring Exponential Functions
- Jan Mays
The goal of this exploration is to understand the behavior of exponential functions with rules fo the form: f(x) = a*b^x where a>0, b>0, and b is not equal to 1.
1) Begin by letting a = 1. Compare the graphs for a variety of values for b. Which values of b give an increasing function? Which values create a decreasing function? Why do we have the restriction that b can't be 1? 2) Let b = 2 and change the values of a. What is the effect on the graph of changing a? It may help to click the radio button beside g(x) to see the change.
