9.1 Translations & Congruence

A translation is a transformation that slides a figure along a straight line from the preimage (input) to the image (output).

TASK 1: Move the red dot to see how the triangle moves left and right. Move the black dot to see how the triangle moves up and down.

Answer the questions in your notebook for TASK 1 before moving on to the next task.

TASK 2:

Polygon ABCD (preimage) has been translated 5 units left and 3 units up to Polygon A'B'C'D' (image) below. 1. Begin by selecting point A, B, or C (blue) and moving it's location. Observe what happens to the side lengths and angles. 2. Move points A, B, or C until you have a new polygon shape where you can read all the angle measures and side lengths. (You will not be able to move point D). 3. Record all the angle measures and side lengths in your notebook. 4. Answer the questions in your notebook before moving on to the next task.
