The Amplitude or Stretch/Shrink Trigonometric Functions
- A B Cron
Select each function one at a time. Change the value of the Amplitude slider to check effect on the following: State the domain and range of each. State the length of the period for each. State the amplitude of each. Can you state the domain for the inverse of each function?
The word amplitude refers to the sine and cosine functions only and is similar to the volume on a radio or TV. For the other four functions, the proper terminology is Stretch when A > |1| and Shrink when A < |1|. This applet can be used by teachers in a demonstration mode in the classroom or teachers can have students load it on their own computers with a worksheet to be complete for a grade.
