If I were not using a coordinate plane I would know that this translation is accurate by seeing that all points on the shape are moved in the same distance and in the same direction. Also I would make sure that the figure was translated along the vector correctly. Each point would have to be the same distance from the vector and would have to be isometric and preserve orientation.
