A coin is a disc, and an uncooked piece of spaghetti is a cylinder. If you think about it, however, a coin is also a cylinder and an uncooked piece of spaghetti is also a disc. Clearly the coin is more disc-like and the spaghetti more cylinder-like.
Given a coin, a cat food can, a mailing tube, a drinking straw and a piece of uncooked spaghetti, devise a measure of disc-ness that allows you to order these objects from least disc-like to most disc-like. What is the smallest possible value of disc-ness? the largest?
