Students investigate different ways to calculate the area of a square.
Questions:
1.) Calculate the area of the square four different ways:
Area of a parallelogram = bh
Area of a square = s^2
Area of a regular polygon = 0.5aP (a = apothem and P = perimeter)
Area of a rhaombus = 0.5(diagonal 1)(diagonal 2)
2.) If you drag vertex A to change the size of the square, do all the formulas still give you the correct answer for the area? Explain why or why not?
