'polygonal' trigonometric functions

A point moves with constant angular velocity on a regular polygon. Use the 'sides' slider to set the number of sides of the polygon. Click on the icon in the lower left hand corner of either panel to see an animation. What curves are traced out in the right hand panel? Why do they look like that? How do the curves in the right hand panel vary when you rotate the polygon in the left hand panel? Explain why they behave as they do. What questions could/would you ask your students based on this applet?
