6.3 Task - Similar Triangles

AA Similarity

  1. Create ray AB.
  2. Construct an angle with given measure of 40 degrees from point B with point A at its vertex.
  3. Construct ray AB'.
  4. Construct point C between A and B'
  5. Construct an angle with given measure of 60 degrees from point A with point C at its vertex.
  6. Construct segment CA'.
  7. Construct point D at the intersection of CA' and ray AB
  8. Use the polygon tool to construct triangle ACD.
  9. Measure the lengths of all three sides of triangle ACD.
  10. Repeat steps 1-8 to create a second triangle.
  11. Once you have two triangles with identical angle measures, drag point C so the side lengths are different in your two triangles.
  12. Insert text, or draw with the pen, that sets up the ratios of each corresponding sides to your triangles and state the decimal (ex: 1/2 = 0.5)
  13. If you decimals are all the same, then you are done!
