As part of a contest sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh student council, you have designed an image of their mascot (a panther) that will be put on hats sold at the school store.

As part of a contest sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh student council, you have designed an image of their mascot (a panther) that will be put on hats sold at the school store. The contest rules are very specific. The mascot width must be between 3 and 5 inches, the height no less than 2 inches, and the sum of the width and height no more than 9 inches.
1. Use the sliders to create boundary lines that follow the rules of the contest.
Red = mascot width boundaries
Blue = mascot height boundaries
Green = mascot height and width sum boundaries
2. Add a point (intersecting two objects) to the vertices of the region that satisfies the criteria for the mascot.
3. Plot the point that represents a mascot that is 6 inches wide and 6 inches high, call it M. Does that size mascot fit the requirements? Why or why not?
4. Three of your friends want to enter the contest as well. Give each of them different dimensions that will fit the rules of the contest. Plot them as points N, O, and P.
5. Your friend JaRaya designs a mascot that is 3.5 inches wide. What is the maximum height that she could use? Plot the maximum height with a width of 3.5 inches. Call that point R.
6. Jeremy’s mascot is very tall – 8.5 inches. What is the maximum width he could use? Plot the point with a height of 8.5 inches and the maximum width he could have as point J.
7. What is the biggest overall mascot that you could have? What is the smallest? Explain how you know.
8. You would like to suggest to the student council that they have another contest to design mascots for t-shirts to be sold at the school store. Create four new boundary lines in a new geogebra worksheet. What is the biggest mascot that can be designed? The smallest?
