Learning About Transformations The purpose of this exercise is to provide students with a tool for exploring mathematical transformations.
You will notice that when the value of parameters within an equation are manipulated in particular ways, the new function g(x) will be a transformation of the original function f(x).
By changing one parameter at a timetransformations occur in mathematically predicatble ways. Each parameter (a, b, h and k) influence the original base function in unique ways. Students will also learn that these behaviors are not specific to one particular function family but apply to functions in general.
