Do your favorite foods contain too much sugar? The American Heart Association recommends limiting the amount of added sugars to 100 calories per day for women and 150 calories per day for men. Many foods have natural sugars. Food products that have sugars added will have the type of sugar added listed in the food label. Some examples are sugar, honey, high-fructose corn syrup, molasses, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, sucrose, and fruit juice. Below are several labels from products that have added sugars. Choose one drink and one snack from the products below and graph the linear inequality for the number of added sugar calories per serving. There are 4 calories per 1 gram of sugar.
1. Is it possible to snack on an entire package of Pop Tarts and a can of Monster and stay within the recommended added sugar calories? Explain your answer. 2.
