Chapter 1: Line Symmetry (Dn) This chapter deals with the recognition of polygons and figures in which have line symmetry. Students will be able to understand line symmetry and recognize the dimensions of given and created polygons within this worksheet provided. In this worksheet there is; Slider: The slider allows students to create their own polygons/figures through n* given points. Trace button: The trace button allows students to erase their old polygons and start over. Given point: Point B is the constructor in which allows students to create their polygon through a "trace" like drawling. Students will be working with a given specific figure from the instructor then will be able to become familiar with the "trace button" to start over and create their own additional figures that apply to given questions later on.
Q1: (Instructor figure given) Using your Line Symmetry knowledge background, explain how many symmetry lines consist within this "window like" figure... (D1, D2, D3...) Q2: Following your answer to Q1 can you trace all lines of symmetry on the figure given? Q3: Using the trace button, erase the figure above and move the slider to n=6 to create a new figure. -> Does your new figure have more or less lines of symmetry? Why? Q4: Using the previous answers to questions 1-3, what relationship can you see between lines of symmetries and the number of sides on the given polygons?
