2.5 Areas on Geoboard

Use Geoboard techniques to find the area of the following figures. Do not use any formulas. You may use the area tool to check your answer. Make sure, however, that you are able clearly explain the geoboard techniques to find the area.

You should also be able to find the lengths on the Geoboard:

  • Mark a unit square on the Geoboard. What is the distance between two opposite vertices of your square (i.e. diagonal) ? What is a common students' mistake in identifying this distance?
  • What is the perimeter of the green and yellow polygons above?
