Ellipse with directions Assignment 2 FINAL
How to construct an ellipse:
1. Make points F and G
2. Select circle with center through point F and label the circle A
3. Select a Point on the Circle and label it B
4. Make a segment BF
5. Make a Segment GB
6. Make a Perpendicular Bisector for segment BG
7. At the intersect between segments BF and the perpendicular bisector to segment BG, select a point C and going into settings turn on the trace and give it a color green
8. On point B on Circle A, turn on the animation and the trace will construct an ellipse.
Why this is an ellipse:
The definition of an ellipse is a curve on a plane surrounding two focal points such that the sum of the distances to the two focal points is constant for every point on the curve.
On our ellipse the two focal points are represented by points F and G. Point B represents a point along the ellipse that shows the sum between segments FB and GB. In addition our radius was represented by segment FB, if you notice that if your radius FB is less than the length GB, the shape of the ellipse becomes wider.Hence the tracing makes an ellipse that's constant around the focal points F and G.
