About the Study

Introduction Letter

Dear Classroom Teacher, I am writing to you because you teach high school mathematics, and I am looking for participants in a study of free resources to support the teaching of statistics in Algebra II and Mathematics III. My name is Liz Arnold, and I am a mathematics education doctoral student in the state of Montana studying the teaching of high school statistics. I have created a statistics unit that is aligned with the goals and content standards of the Common Core State Standards Mathematics (CCSSM) and the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) Framework. I am recruiting participants for my study (taking place during the 2015-2016 academic year). For you, the participant, this is an opportunity to receive resources that will aid in teaching statistics in Algebra II, Mathematics III, or the equivalent of either of these courses. Your participation will prove invaluable in answering research questions about the teaching of statistics at the high school level. If you are teaching Algebra II, Mathematics III or the equivalent of these courses next year and are interested in participating in this study, please complete the short Teacher Enrollment Survey (consisting of seven questions) provided on this GeoGebraBook. The link to the Teacher Enrollment Survey is also provided here. Enrollment Survey Once you have completed the enrollment survey and if you meet the initial requirements of the study, you will be invited to participate in the first phase of the study, which involves completing a few more surveys. Together, these surveys should take no longer than 90 minutes. To thank you for your time, the first 75 teachers to complete these surveys will electronically receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card. Some of the participants in the first phase will be invited to participate in the second phase of the study, which will be conducted during the 2015-2016 academic school year. All participants in both phases of the study will receive the free statistics teaching materials. You may contact me at arnold@math.montana.edu if you have any further questions. Thank you for your time! Liz
