A classic demonstration in an introductory physics lecture -
a pellet gun is aimed at a stuffed monkey doll which is held
at a height above the lab table.

The monkey is released and allowed to drop and at the
same instant the pellet gun is fired.
Under what circumstances does the pellet strike the monkey? Why?
