המשולשים AOC ו-BOD חופפים. מחשבים לפי מעגל היחידה את הקואורדינטות של A (קבועה), B (אלפא), C (אלפא פלוס ביתא) ו-D (מינוס ביתא). מחשבים לפי נוסחת מרחק את AC ו-BD ומשווים אותם. משם מתפתחת הזהות של cos(a+b).
